Shuzi sport bands shamed in new study
AS Shuzi Australia packs up shop, tests done in the UK on one of their performance enhancing bangles show it does nothing to improve skill and accuracy.
TO THE uninitiated, they look like ordinary black bracelets.
And that, it would seem, is exactly what these so-called sports bands are - despite their hefty price tag.
The bracelets have become the latest must-have among amateur athletes hoping to improve their performance.

But tests done in the UK on a black bangle made by Shuzi showed it did nothing to improve the skill and accuracy of an amateur rugby player.
The $100 bangle is one of a range which contain a chip said to have been programmed to make the cells in the blood separate, boosting circulation. This, it is claimed, can improve balance, strength, concentration, flexibility and energy.
The Merseyside Skeptics Society bought two of the bracelets and removed the chip from one of them. A semi-professional rugby player then took 100 conversion kicks, half with each bracelet, but without knowing which was which.
The results showed the chip had made little or no difference to his performance.
This test comes of the back of a refusal from Shuzi's Australian branch to take part in a challenge issued by the Australian Skeptics society to prove their product's worth.
The Australian Skeptics found that, amongst other things, the bracelet's 'Live Blood Analysis' is not a diagnosis recognised as scientifically valid by the medical profession; that there was "no credible evidence" in regard to the claim that the bracelet will "make your mind and body more resistant to the effects of stress in any form, including electromagnetic fields (EMF), harmful emissions radiating from electronic equipment such as cell phones, computers and hair dryers; and that the bracelet's ‘Body Balance’ tests are "nothing more than sideshow entertainment."

On August six of this year, Shuzi posted this on their website:
"Sorry! Shuzi’s Australia Distributor has decided to leave Australia to focus on other ventures.
"Shuzi no longer has a presence in Australia, but our products can still be purchased from the Shuzi International site of www.shuzination.com
"Don't worry we ship all around Oceania!
