Lieutenant Colonel Jim Arthurs enlisted in the Army in October 1993 as an Armored Crewman. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Armor branch upon completion of Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Georgia on 12 May 2005, and was recognized as the Distinguished Academic Graduate as well as the Distinguished Leadership Graduate of his class. Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs' military education also includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Maneuver Captains Career Course, the Scout Leaders Course, the Cavalry Leaders Course, the Basic Airborne Course and the Advanced Combat Advisors Course. In 2016, he graduated the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. He holds a Master's in Administration and Human Resources from Central Michigan University.
Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs has served in a number of operational assignments during his career, beginning his commissioned service as a Mobile Gun System Platoon Leader in 1st BN, 24th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis, WA and the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Rose Barracks, Germany. From 2009-2010, he performed duties as the Assistant Team Chief on a Military Transition Team, embedded with the Iraqi Federal Police in Al Amarah, Iraq. Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs then served in the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado as the Commander for B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment. Most recently, LTC Arthurs served as the Executive Officer for 2nd Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment and was subsequently selected to serve as the Brigade Executive Officer of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs has also served in various broadening positions throughout his career. From 2013-2015, he served as the Senior Captains' Assignment Officer in Armor Branch at the US Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 2019, he was assigned as a Plans officer at the Joint Modernization Command at Fort Bliss, Texas. Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs currently serves as the Professor of Military Science at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs has participated in three combat tours. In 2004, he deployed to Baghdad, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. In 2009, he deployed as a member of the 1st Infantry Division to Maysan Province, Iraq serving as a Combat Advisor to train Iraqi Security Forces. In 2012, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Commander of B Troop, 3-61 Cavalry in eastern Afghanistan. His military decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
Lieutenant Colonel Arthurs has been married to his wife, Alma, for over 25 years. They have two children, Alaina and Dylan.
