Culture news “I think we made Fallout 6”: the screenwriter of the Prime Video series explains the underside of the series adaptation

The Fallout series will be available very soon on Prime Video, marking the end of several years of waiting on the part of a large community: obviously, those responsible for the series are on a promotional tour… and are allowing themselves some juicy declarations.

War never dies

The Fallout saga has been one of the pillars of video games since the advent of the first episode at the end of the 90s and although the formula has changed since the acquisition of the license by Bethesda, the series nonetheless remains very popular . So yes, there were little hiccups – a certain Fallout 76, which nevertheless made up for it over the years – but fans are already impatient for the future arrival of Fallout 5, officially in pre-production for a while now.

Well, don’t be in too much of a hurry either since the project is still in its early stages: first, the American studio must produce The Elder Scrolls 6, a huge project which will not be completed for years. In any case, know that a pitch for Fallout 5 has already been ready internally for a long time, according to Todd Howard… and now the series adaptation by Amazon would even look like a sixth episode.

Shelter exit

You are probably aware that a Fallout series will soon be arriving on Prime Video: it will tell the untold story of Lucy, a young woman deciding to leave her anti-nuclear shelter on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Once outside, she discovers a retro-futuristic world ravaged by atomic bombs, with mutating creatures, destructive weapons and a survivalist philosophy. All with a good dose of dark humor and undisguised violence.

In an interview with Den of Geek, Todd Howard (from Bethesda), Jonathan Nolan (writer, director and producer on the series) and Graham Wagner (showrunner) returned to this completely new story. So unprecedented that not long ago, Nolan stated in another interview that “it was almost like they were making Fallout 5”. Obviously, fans saw clues about the story of the future Fallout 5, which is still very discreet for the moment.

Nolan therefore corrected his remarks: no, the Fallout series will not tell the story of Fallout 5. On the other hand, it fits well into the world of video games.

You’ll have all the benefits of great storytelling that Todd and Bethesda contributed to, but we also get to tell a never-before-seen story in this setting, this world. As writers and filmmakers, it’s just a dream come true.

“I think we made Fallout 6”Wagner even responded in a joking tone. “We know everything about Fallout 5, we just don’t tell anyone”, retorted Nolan, also amused. A reference to a private discussion with Todd Howard beforehand, the latter having actually confided certain private details to avoid repetition in the series: “There were certain moments where I told them ‘don’t do that because we’re going to do it in Fallout 5′”, Howard explained in the interview. In short, we’re going to be eating Fallout for a few more years, that’s a certainty.

See you on April 11, 2024 on Prime Video!
