With the latest release of SOLIDWORKS Conceptual Designer (SWCD) and SOLIDWORKS Industrial Designer (SWID) we have worked hard to enhance the interoperability capabilities to protect and leverage your valuable intellectual property, and speed up your overall design workflows.
Sketch Interoperability:
Our SOLIDWORKS 3DEXPERIENCE solutions allow you to save your 2D sketch information for re-use in SOLIDWORKS Desktop.
In the example shown below, these mechanism sketch objects created in SOLIDWORKS Conceptual Designer are mapped to sketch blocks, constraints and dimensions in SOLIDWORKS Desktop, allowing you to maintain the integrity of your design as the detailed design phase moves forward.
Converted sketches include the graphic entities plus the geometric and dimensional constraints. This allows you to easily leverage the intelligence contained within your sketches.
Assembly Interoperability:
You can now choose to read the mate information from your SOLIDWORKS Desktop assemblies when opening them in SWCD and SWID. This greatly improves your efficiency when re-using legacy design information as you explore new concepts.
SOLIDWORKS Desktop to SOLIDWORKS Conceptual Designer or Industrial Designer:
To close the concept to detail design loop, we also support reading assembly mates from SWCD and SWID back into SOLIDWORKS Desktop. You can now design and validate new designs, then send them to SOLIDWORKS for detailing.

Of course, situations may arise where your legacy SOLIDWORKS Desktop design data needs to be modified for your new project. By leveraging the ‘Edit in SOLIDWORKS’ command, you to directly open your legacy models for editing in SOLIDWORKS Desktop.
Simply make you changes, save the model and SOLIDWORKS Conceptual Designer or Industrial Designer will automatically update the modified component.
